Gazette columnist predictable in defense

Gazette columnist Jennifer Hemmingsen's defense (April 23) of Ellen Lewin, a professor at the University of Iowa, was nothing short of predictable. Lewin responded to a university-approved mass mailing from a conservative campus group with “F---you Republicans.” Her response was sent from a university computer using her university account and ID, a clear violation of university policy.
Her subsequent “apology” was nothing more than a pathetic attempt to keep her job. There was no remorse or acknowledgment of her wrongdoing. Would a conservative at the university who responded in a like manner to an email sent out by one of the many liberal groups on campus even have a job today?
Hemmingsen would like for us to believe that Lewin is a victim, that she was baited to respond. Right! Circle the wagons. Demonize the conservative group that sent out the email. Demand no accountability from Lewin. And the liberal media still can't figure out why fewer and fewer people subscribe to their newspapers or watch their programming.
