Gay-marriage issue affects very few of us

I'm happy to see that a Sept. 21 poll by The Des Moines Register found that 92 percent of Iowans say gay marriage has brought no change whatsoever to their lives. Imagine that - who other people love does not change your life.
The remaining 8 percent are probably gays and lesbians who are now able to share the same rights and responsibilities as the rest of Iowa.
Opponents of equality are at a distinct disadvantage, as more people realize that the hysterical claims they make are unfounded. They also see their strongest supporters die off while new young voters, who have gay friends, are strongly tolerant.
