Friday’s Caitlin Clark cover set ‘gold standard’ of its own

The Gazette's Feb. 16 cover shouted "Gold Standard," with a full-page photo of Iowa's Caitlin Clark, marking her historic achievement of surpassing the scoring record in women's basketball. Caitlin set a gold standard, but in my view, so did The Gazette.
That cover was spectacular, in every sense of that overused word. Caitlin said after her win that she wouldn't be where she is without her teammates. To wit: That cover passed through many journalistic hands before erupting in glory onto the page. As a retired Gazette columnist, I have an index into the work and the creativity that went into that cover.
So — kudos to Caitlin — and kudos to The Gazette!
Iowa doesn't just grow corn — we grow greatness!
