Free speech not always appreciated

To the editor:
Recently, there appeared a letter from Delaware County decrying the lack of sweet speech concerning our junior senator ('Positive news about Ernst was welcome,” April 8).
The writer resorted to name calling of losers responsible for some negative writing. What has happened to the First Amendment in her thinking?
I seem to recall a couple of quotes from the White House some 60 or more years ago to the effect of 'If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog” and the second one, 'If you can't stand the heat…”
Condolences.
