Former planner supports Freerks for I.C. council

In my 33 years as a city planner, I worked in cities large and small across the U.S. with scores of planning commissioners who volunteered enormous time for their cities' betterment. Of all those, Ann Freerks impressed me as the most dedicated.

In her 18 years on our historic preservation and planning and zoning commissions, she worked tirelessly to analyze the reports, plans and correspondence from staff, developers and residents. She listened to all sides and deliberated thoughtfully.

Ann has demonstrated a commitment to the quality and future of Iowa City.

When a development proposal did not comply with the comprehensive plan, or lacked a proper drainage plan, for example, she sent it back to the drawing board.

She supports preserving our historic buildings and neighborhoods - but also new development where appropriate.

She understands a 'complete” community needs neighborhoods with a mix of single-family homes, duplexes and apartments - for households of all sizes, ages and incomes.

Ann knows neighborhoods must be connected not only by streets, but also by trails and sidewalks for biking, walkability and sustainability. She worked to include playgrounds, parks and trails in new subdivisions.

Of all of the fine candidates for Iowa City Council, Ann Freerks has the most experience with the development and civic issues council deals with weekly. Please vote for Ann Freerks in the Sept. 4 primary.
