Former Iowan dismayed by political changes

As someone who grew up in Iowa and attended college at Drake before moving to Arizona and then Colorado, I’m very disappointed in the change I have seen in Iowa.
How can so many, in a state that seems to experience one extreme weather event after another, continue to support a governor who follows Trump’s lead of denying our role in climate change? If anyone should be concerned about climate change, wouldn’t you think it would be the Iowa farmers and others involved in agriculture?
How can many support a governor who signed a bill allowing the carrying of guns with absolutely no training? Iowans are good people but how can they tolerate even looser gun laws when gun violence in Iowa and elsewhere is out of control? I simply don’t understand it!
