Former board member questions Harrison Demolition

The Cedar Rapids School Board claimed a major reason for demolishing Harrison Elementary School in West Side Cedar Rapids was the $1 million additional cost of remodeling Harrison and adding an addition compared to just demolishing Harrison and building a completely new school on that same location.
This cost difference sounds illogical on the surface and the board should not accept those cost estimates. The building designer should be required to redesign their proposed plan to reduce the combined cost of the remodel and addition by $1 million. I am certain that this can be done and still retain the facility features desired for our current education requirements and desires.
