Food workers, keep control of your hair
The Gazette Opinion Staff

While at a local establishment recently to purchase a cup of ice cream after lunch, I discovered there was a hair in between my two front teeth. Fighting the urge to vomit, I took the hair and the ice cream back to the employee on duty.
Her first reaction was to look at the color of my own hair and then at the color of the hair I was holding in my hand. Besides insulting me by thinking I would do such a thing just to get free ice cream, it only added to my bewilderment.
I am amazed at how many local establishments where I see servers and bartenders with long hair not tied up off their shoulders and back. Bartenders who have hair hanging over ice that is to be served in drinks are especially disturbing.
As a food server for a number of years who once had long hair, I was always so careful to have it up and away from whatever I was serving.
Is there not a health code in this city?
