Food insecurity in a supply-rich country
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 14, 2011 11:19 pm
In regard to the 12 percent of Iowans who are living with food insecurity: If our economy gets any worse, I believe this number will go much higher. Our economy is now at a standstill with our U.S. unemployment rate hovering at 9 percent.
The representatives and senators, who work for us, obviously are not doing their jobs. Many businesses are hurting because of the many regulations our Congress is imposing on them. If our elected officials cannot get our economy going, we need term limits and to elect those who can.
We need to make sure we vote for people who are trustworthy, have a good work ethic and can get the job done. In a country with an abundant food supply, we shouldn't have that high of a percentage of people living with food insecurity.
