Following the golden rule

Regarding the Aug. 18 letter “Pay attention to moral fiber” by Glenn J. Drahn:

Drahn cites some statistics addressing birthrates, violent crime, sexually transmitted diseases, SATs, and single-parent households to support the decline of moral fiber. He references court rulings and statistics beginning in 1962, to present in some areas, apparently.

My thoughts are about his point in court rulings supporting a separation of church and state and how you feel this has destroyed moral fiber. Isn't it great from your standpoint that religious majority is not given consideration over government?

It seems you are “calling out,” as “non-Christian,” a very large part of the population in this country. Are they majority? These groups, if “non-Christian,” may represent another religious affiliation (although, my better judgment tells me it is nonreligion specific).

It has always been my understanding that our country, the United States of America, was settled on the grounds of freedom from religion. To me, that means as a citizen, I am able to recognize or not recognize a religion without penalty. I wouldn't force mine upon you, don't force yours upon me.

(This is a) Non-issue, get along and follow the golden rule, “Treat others as you wish to be treated.”
