Follow the rules of the road for safety

In response to the letter on July 7, 'Bicyclists, please obey the stop signs,” I concur with the letter writer's comments regarding bicyclists and stop signs. As a biker and driver, I am dismayed to watch bikers dash through stop signs. This is not following the rules of the road nor is it a good example for current and future young bike riders.
However, I also would ask the writer to admonish drivers who do not 'see” bikers. A number of times, drivers have not given me the right of way and nearly hit me, with the most recent example on July 3, forcing me to slam on my bike brakes (I always wear bright clothing so I should have been very visible). These occurrences take place on both two- and four-way stops when I have had the right of way while on the bike lanes near downtown. With the most recent example, the driver looked only one way and then pulled in front of me, nearly causing a collision.
Please, both bicyclists and drivers, follow the rules of the road and 'see” the bikers.
