Follow the money to the Democrats
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In response to the March 22 letter “Republicans gain from corporate tax cuts,” the letter writer parrots liberal opinion regarding “big money” in politics. While it is amusing, fact it is not. The writer claims that “Republicans give big corporations and the wealthy tax cuts because they receive millions in campaign contributions in return.”
Well, let's look at research by the Center for Responsive Government, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, to see where campaign money actually comes from and goes. In the 2010 election cycle alone, business contributions went 48 percent to Democrats, 46 percent to Republicans. Corporate CEO's aren't stupid.
When looking at the top 10 individual donors to PACs, candidates, etc., eight of the top 10 were Democrats.
During the 2010 election cycle Democrats had the top three overall donors, led by ActBlue, SEIU and the NEA. In fact, the notorious Goldman Sachs primarily supported Democrats, like Harry Reid.
Now look at the labor sector. In 2010, labor supported Democrats, with rank-and-file money, to the tune of 93 percent, while studies show that union members actually vote Republican between 30 percent and 50 percent of the time. Strange.
Who is representing whom? Tax breaks to big business and the wealthy in return for Republican campaign donations?
If that's the case, it looks like the Republican Party needs to find a more monogamous “partner.”
