Flag Day provided great patriotic inspiration

Thank you to all of my fellow Cedar Rapidians who made my morning on June 14 one worth remembering. It was a dreary, rainy day as I was headed off to work. I started noticing more flags out than usual with larger flags placed at the curb area at a few houses on my drive down Trailridge, Bever Avenue and Country Club Parkway. It was Flag Day!
I thought to myself: I didn't get a letter about someone selling large flags, I wondered who was doing it?
Then it occurred to me as I headed down 29th Street NE - a grand street lined with small flags, with larger ones sprinkled along the way - I bet those houses signified a home of one of our veterans. (I'm assuming that is the case anyway!)
All of a sudden, I became very emotional. I started to feel very patriotic and thought to myself how great it is to be alive. I take none of my life in this free country for granted. It's great to be an American. God bless the USA!
