First Christian Church brings back many memories

When The Gazette printed the Feb. 5 article about the First Christian Church (targeted to be removed for a parking lot for a medical office building), it reminded me of what the church has meant to me and the Deaver family over the years.
My brothers, Robert, Richard and me, were raised in the church and received our Christian upbringing there.
My mother, Beaulah Deaver was a member for 75 years and her sisters, Isabelle Davis and Flora Diereckson, were members almost as long.
They served the church faithfully in various ways - Sunday school teachers, deaconesses and prepared communion for more than 40 years. Altogether they served over 200 years at the church.
So when I hear something about the church, it reminds me of the great service it provided. It (the church) serves me as a monument to these great ladies and their service.
