Firefighters, teachers are not ‘parasites’

Dear Bill Strilich (March 12 letter, “Rich attacked by unions are helping economy”): I could not recommend that you call any union member a parasite. That might be a more appropriate adjective for those employees who do not pay dues, yet do receive the same wages and benefits as those who pay their dues.
If you have children, I hope that, for their sake, you don't call their teachers parasites. If your house is on fire I hope you don't call the firefighters parasites.
Perhaps they should operate like insurance corporations, “Sir, we know you have paid your taxes all of your life but you're not covered for a fire caused by a candle. Sorry, maybe you could call one of the workers in our station in Mexico, or try India.”
