Firearm ownership is a protected freedom

Regarding Robert Hartzler's April 12 letter 'Firearms should be treated like vehicles”:
I had to respond to Hartzler's ill advised letter regarding treating firearms like vehicles. I could go into a long line of arguments that have been debated a thousand times in every form of media in the United States. Instead, I will make it very simple. Firearm ownership is a Constitutionally protected freedom. Driving a car is not. Pricing firearm ownership out of the hands of everyone except the wealthy through unconstitutional regulation and exorbitant taxation would be just another way for the liberal establishment to try to take away firearms from law abiding citizens. Existing laws only challenge legal firearms owners. I have not seen a lawmaker yet who has proposed a way to take firearms away from criminals. A firearm is nothing but a tool. Mentally unstable people and criminals are the problem. Address the real problem.
