'Fair tax' not fair, favors the rich

I was surprised last week when Mariannette Miller-Meeks during the debate with Congressman Loebsack dragged out that old chestnut of a “fair tax.”
Like all Republican tax maneuvers, the “fair tax” greatly favors the rich and puts the burden on the poor and middle class. A good analysis can be found at www.factcheck.org/taxes/unspinning_the_fairtax.html
Just like her health care proposals, just like her Social Security proposals, just like her own personal health insurance situation this summer, Miller-Meeks usually follows the Republican line without much thought about the long-term consequences.
Thinking like this is what led to the current Republican-caused recession. We need a Congress member who thinks long-term, a member who puts good of the country above party ideology. We already have such a member in Dave Loebsack.
Why would we trade that in for the short-sighted mindset that will continue policies that greatly favor the most wealthy among us?
Miller-Meeks has been well scripted in her appearances, but a close analysis shows yet another solid vote for the rich and against a fair shake for the poor and middle class among us.
