Faculty Senate Officers support Sally Mason

Faculty Senate Officers recognize with pride the continuing positive strides of our university in engagement of our state's citizens, student enrollment, federal funding, philanthropy, health care development, and capital planning.
The University of Iowa's successes occurred despite our having to deal with natural and economic hardships. A flood that would have halted work for months in other organizations stopped our university, under President Sally Mason's direction, for only a week with alternative locations and schedules in place almost immediately.
Shortly after the flood we experienced a devastating downturn in the economy. Our university not only survived but thrived under Mason's leadership with faculty, staff and students working together to ensure that day-to-day tasks continued.
When the UI does encounter problems, it attempts to deal with them in ways that respect principles of shared governance and the rights of individuals. As elected representatives of the faculty, Faculty Senate officers meet on a regular basis with Mason and other leaders in her administration. The conversations that take place in these meetings are open, candid, and constructive, and are in the best interests of the university.
Recently, the Faculty Council, with members representing every college at the University of Iowa, voted unanimously for a resolution expressing its full support of Mason.
We look forward to continuing to work with her, the university's administration, our Board of Regents and our legislators to ensure that the university maintains its outstanding reputation as an institution of which all Iowans can be proud.
