On Nov. 2, you will have an opportunity to elect a new Linn County treasurer. Your choices are Sharon Gonzalez, with more than 30 years of experience in the treasurer's office, and her opponent with no relevant experience. As former Linn County auditor, I had the pleasure of working with Gonzalez during those years as she worked her way up from the title clerk to deputy treasurer. I found her to be cooperative with other offices and always looking for a better way to serve Linn County taxpayers. She is a lifelong resident of Iowa and is committed to customer service and efficiency in government.
Have you ever stood in line waiting to get your license plate tags? Gonzalez is working with the Board of Supervisors on a plan to add a number system and seating for customers, similar to that at the driver's license station, when the county offices move back to the Administrative Office Building. She also plans to crosstrain all Treasurer Office employees in the motor vehicle division and the property tax division so any clerk in the office can assist customers with either type of transaction.
