Even without guns, terrorists will kill
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 5, 2009 11:31 pm
On Nov. 25, the former director of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence used the national tragedy of the shootings at Fort Hood, and the grief of the families of the dead and injured, as a stage to state several untruths in an attempt to push his radical agenda.
The writer states that this tragedy occurred because the accused, Maj. Nidal Hasan, was someone with a grudge who had access to a firearm. From what the author wrote, it appears that his being a terrorist bent on the destruction of our country actually had nothing to do with the incident. If only he didn't have a gun.
All one has to do to see the fallacy of the writer's position is turn to the front page of this or any other newspaper. Terrorists don't care how they kill, only that they do so and take as many innocent lives with them as possible. If one method of killing is difficult for them to obtain, they will use another to kill massive numbers of our countrymen and friends and they all share one common feature: a sick and twisted human mind is in charge.
The real tragedy here is that these fine men and women, who we trust to defend us against all kinds of evil, are not allowed to defend themselves.
