When the ACA (Obamacare) became law in 2013, millions of Americans, including 132,000 Iowans, got healthcare coverage. Thousands of young Iowans were able to remain on their parents' plans. For a million Iowans, lifetime limits on healthcare plans were eliminated. And over a million Iowans with pre-existing conditions were no longer denied coverage. Health care became available to many thousands of Iowans previously denied coverage by insurance companies under the free market system.
During a recent interview on KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Sen. Joni Ernst stated she supports repealing Obamacare and returning health care to the free market system.
Although Ernst claims she supports keeping the pre-existing condition clause, she has voted seven times with Senate Republicans to repeal Obamacare in its entirety, including the pre-existing condition clause. In addition, 20 Republican-run states are suing the federal government to repeal Obamacare in its entirety.
Senator Ernst needs to be held accountable for her actions as she is willing to end a critical program for Iowans in need of adequate and affordable health care. We need a senator who will always stand up for Iowans.
