As a member of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee Joni Ernst has always championed the cause of the biofuels and ethanol because this segment of our economy provides employment opportunities for workers and earnings potentials for America's farmers. She joined her Iowa Republican colleague Chuck Grassley and her Democratic colleague Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. More must be done amid the pandemic crisis.
Gasoline usage is now at a 50-year low and up to 130 biofuel plants have been closed due to the pandemic. Ernst has gone on record to encourage Andrew Wheeler, the Administrator of the EPA, to consider getting rid of 52 small refinery wavers that would make some refineries exempt from the Renewable Fuel Standard. This environmental standard requires a minimum volume of renewable fuels to be used in our transportation fuels. This is not a new public cause for Ernst. Back in 2019, Joni advocated an initiative by President Donald Trump to increase the amount of ethanol used in gasoline production.
Join me in supporting Ernst in her reelection bid this year. Let's put our faith and trust behind Ernst, who truly has bipartisan support and knowledge about this issue.
