Energy supply, development slowed by government
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 17, 2011 11:34 am
Canada is America's largest oil supplier at 2 million barrels per day for the U.S. market, which consumes 11 million barrels per day. With oil over $100 per barrel, considerable interest is surfacing about the Keystone Pipeline project to carry 1.1 million barrels a day of additional oil from Alberta, Canada, to Texas. The U.S. government has been reviewing this pipeline project since 2008 and Obama's administration has requested more environmental reviews without stipulating reasons.
For another U.S. source of energy, Alaska has been placed off limits for additional oil production by the Obama administration. Our government continues to place bureaucratic roadblocks in the way of energy supply and development while the price of gasoline continues to climb threatening both our economy and national security. With such delays, whose side is Obama's administration on?
