End-of-life care prompts questions
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 23, 2012 1:42 pm
A reprint from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in the July 8 Gazette was provocative and thoughtful (“Doctors on the front lines of end-of-life care”). I would add that the person at the end of life is on the front lines as well.
The article raised these troublesome and fear-begetting questions: Who will make my end-of-life choices if I have dementia or am beyond communicating? Will my death be prolonged in the name of life? Will my death bankrupt my family and help to bankrupt Medicare? Who will help my family, doctor and me figure it all out? Help!
