End business help and attend to streets

I don't see our city officials solving the problem that comes up every 15 years or so. Bad streets, potholes and no money to fix them. What is the plan in the future to have the streets kept up, or do they plan to keep the local-option sales tax going forever?
Maybe if we got out of private business (see hotel) and took care of the city, we would have more money. Sell the city-owned land that the city does not use or need. Maybe sell other properties and use that money for the neglected streets?
We need to quit having our government helping out private business. No more taxes.
