Enact gun laws for health, safety

To the editor:
I am appalled to find that Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley are among the 20 highest recipients of donations from gun rights activists.
I hope that their consciences will require them to forgo these donations in light of the onslaught of gun-inflicted deaths and injuries, so that they will be free to vote in the best interests of constituents by advocating more rigorous federal control of access to firearms.
It is appalling that this nation will tolerate this epidemic going untreated among its population. It is indeed an epidemic, being no respecter of age, or any other demographic. If it were a biological disease there would be a massive effort to find a cure.
I urge all readers to contact their legislators to press for the CDC to be allowed to investigate the causes of gun violence, so that we can join the rest of the world in saying that we truly are protecting the health and safety of our citizenry.
