Ellis Park well-utilized, fully functional

A recent letter (July 3, Brad Fisher) suggested “selling non-functional parks” as means for the city to raise money, Ellis Park in particular. With the past attempt to build housing in the park, and the current plan to relocate the Time Check Recreation Center within the park, I fear that some of our government officials may have the same idea.
However, there is nothing non-functional about Ellis Park. It has a fully functioning swimming pool, ball diamonds, pavilions, playgrounds, tennis courts and golf course - all of which are well used by many citizens.
The idea that a “wet-side” green space could replace all of that is unreasonable. A green space, dotted by the individual homes of those who do not choose to sell their property to the city, is not a good trade-off for a beautiful, well-established, well-utilized park. Let our mayor and City Council know that we do not support this type of development in our parks.
