Elkader performance of professional quality
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Are you aware that a fantastic cultural opportunity in rural northeast Iowa is being performed through Saturday in the historic Elkader Opera House? “The Music Man,” by Iowa's Meredith Willson, showcases more than 50 superbly talented local, amateur performers in unbelievable costumed finery. A dozen equally talented musicians play their hearts out.
I enjoyed the first performance Oct. 1 and sat amazed and totally enthralled, hardly believing that this is not Broadway or big city professional theater, but, rather, local business people, teachers, children - the people you know from day-to-day contact.
I challenge any person interested in live theater to find a greater event than this, especially in a small town like Elkader.
