Eliminating ObamaCare should not be an option

Politicians will say almost anything to get elected. One party's favorite line is “We will overturn ObamaCare.” This is the same party that plans on saving Social Security and Medicare by gutting the programs.

The last three years, we entered the real world. Cancer doesn't have a political preference. Your first thought after diagnosis is “How long will I live?” Your next thought is “Will my insurance drop me?” At the time when the bottom drops out of your life, your biggest fear is that your insurance may drop you.

I applaud those of you with the wealth to make it without insurance or Medicare, but before you get too comfortable, remember this is the world of six-figure surgeries, $10,000 shots and $100-a-day pills.

The Affordable Health Care Act (ObamaCare) eliminates the fear that insurance will drop you. It eliminates a childhood disease or diagnosis making you uninsurable. It removes a cap on coverage. At a time when you need it most, along with Medicare and Social Security, it provides comfort and security. We can improve and make these programs better, but eliminating them should not be an option.

Don't take us backward, and don't put fear into this again. Educate yourself before you jump on that bandwagon. A terminal diagnosis is hard enough to live with, don't let people play politics with these issues.
