Eliminate special treatment in tax code
The Gazette Opinion Staff

This concern about helping the middle class is misplaced. Just grow the economy and let pieces to the puzzle fall into place. We need wealth!
Our federal tax code is a joke. It favors this group and that group. Flat tax - yes, quit trying to channel people this way or that with the code. Find enough revenue to pay for a smaller government. Too much government regulation is killing this economy.
On property taxes, a two-tier code, one for residential and another for commercial, is wrong. We have to tax Internet sales - it's killing brick-and-mortar business.
Rebuild our economy with competitive tax rates; quit trying to stand on a mountain trying to pick winners and losers. No politician saw Bill Gates working on DOS or Windows. The fracking of oil and natural gas is a huge energy game changer and yet I don't believe the Department of Energy gets it.
