Electric cars are the way of the future

Cal Thomas (“Why it’s not easy being green,” July 6), would have you believe that driving an electric car is a bad thing. In my eighth year of driving an all-electric Nissan Leaf, I would say it’s a good thing. For one thing, it cuts down on carbon emissions.
Climate scientists point out two good ways to stop carbon emissions: one is not having a child, and the other is not driving a greenhouse gas-emitting car. While I’ve already had a child, and I’m not ready to give up driving, I can at least drive an electric car. The spike in gas prices doesn’t affect me. There are several electric charging stations in Cedar Rapids where I can charge my car — for free!
Electric cars get 100 miles per gallon equivalent and they have incredible acceleration. Those are just two reasons to drive electric. They are great for in-town driving and with a little planning, you can find places to charge your car while you shop or enjoy dinner or a show.
Cal Thomas is not a man of the future, but of the past. Don’t listen to him.
