Elect Vernon to help break gridlock

I believe most of us in Iowa would like to elect someone to Congress who is committed to breaking the gridlock that has paralyzed Congress for several years, to improving the lives of ordinary people and to finding solutions to the challenges facing our nation. I believe Monica Vernon is the right person for this job. She is a problem solver who has proved herself in the last seven years on the Cedar Rapids City Council.
One accomplishment probably not known to many made clear to me the values and character of this woman. In the mid 1990s, well before Monica ran for public office, she spearheaded a $1.7 million campaign to build the Madge Phillips Center for homeless women and children in Cedar Rapids. How many candidates running for public office can point to such a significant contribution to their communities?
She saw a real need in her community, so she provided leadership and took action. That is the kind of person I would love to see in Washington. Because of her values and her results-oriented nature, she is truly worthy of your vote.
