Elderly drivers don't know when to stop
Jun. 1, 2010 12:18 am
I read the recent articles on senior drivers, of which I am one (age 64). However, a lot of them do not need to be driving - the ones who pull out in front of you and then slow down to 5 or 10 miles below the speed limit, drive between lanes and cause other drivers to take unnecessary chances to get away from them.
Drivers coming on to the highway/interstate need to be up to speed so other drivers are to move over to the other lane.
I hope that I have enough sense to know when driving is too much of a challenge for me or if I don't that my children have the courage to tell me.
We have too many accidents caused by old people who shouldn't have licenses. There should be periodic drivers tests for anyone over 70.
Road rage is not the answer. Common sense on the part of older drivers and their families is. If they are unaware of the rules of the road or don't see oncoming traffic or pedestrians, then they have no right to be driving.
Driving is a privilege, not a right.
