Educators should lead by example

To the editor:
As many people in the private sector struggle to pay copays in medical coverage, property taxes are up, and interest on a savings account is less than 1 percent, the Iowa City Teachers Union seeks a 6 percent raise.
Rather than educators demonstrating altruism in their important profession, they ask to have their Cadillac benefits, which include opportunities for early retirement, increased.
Lead by example. Do not be greedy.
