As a lifelong public educator, I know the challenges teachers, students, and families face every day. Over my 30-year career, I have served as a bus driver, teacher’s aide and art teacher, working with students from preschool to high school, including those with multiple disabilities and special needs. I have also coached, officiated sports and worked part-time jobs year-round just to make ends meet. Teachers deserve leaders who understand that reality and will fight for a living wage and the resources needed to serve students well.
That is why I am supporting Mimi Daoud for the Cedar Rapids Community School Board. Mimi is exactly the kind of advocate our district needs, one who listens, builds bridges, and leads with compassion and integrity. Her years of experience as an advocate, nonprofit leader, and educator have prepared her to strengthen our schools through equity, transparency, and community engagement.
Mimi understands that student success depends on strong academic foundations and the social and emotional support that helps every child thrive. She values teachers as experts, supports fair compensation, and is committed to fostering schools where every student feels seen, safe, and encouraged to reach their potential.
As someone who has spent a lifetime in education, I recognize in Mimi the same dedication that drives great teachers: a belief that all students deserve opportunity, belonging, and hope. She will serve Cedar Rapids with empathy, accountability, and vision.
