Editorial told leaders not to do their job

I have thought about The Gazette's Feb. 16 editorial on proposed legislation to change the access rule (boat motor size limit) for Lake Macbride.
The positions stated on both sides of this issue seem to be fairly consistent as those stated in the past. What did catch my attention and troubled me was your closing comment that “legislators should back off” the issue. In essence, what The Gazette has done here is to tell legislators to stop doing the job they were elected for: to represent the issues of their constituents. The Gazette's use of the “power of the press” through its editorial reflects in my mind a rather elitist attitude on the democratic process and I believe you owe Sen. Swati Dandekar in particular, and all legislators in general, an apology for simply trying to do the job they were elected for.
