Easier for politicians to spend others’ money
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I don't mean to tarnish the “Good Book” by quoting it in an opinion letter. However, in Ecclesiastes 1:18 – NIV: “For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.”
That sounds like my experience as I'm continually reminded of local, state and federal governments “pour money at it” response to all problems.
An example might be: Three years ago, were there long lines of local homeowners from all over the city, down at the assessor's office clamoring that their assessments were too low? Maybe as much as 7 percent to 10 percent?
And then I wonder: Does this mean I can expect a back taxes bill of 14 percent for those two years I have failed to pay “my fair share?”
It reminds me of an old saying: It's always easier to spend someone else's money. Politicians are living proof of that.
