Drivers blast through roundabouts

I live on Johnson Avenue and the city recently replaced two main intersections with roundabouts (traffic circles). Unfortunately, a lot of drivers don't know how to properly navigate them.
Instead of slowing down and checking for oncoming traffic they blast right through them. There are yield signs posted but I guess that is more of a suggestion to a lot of drivers. Many cars approaching the circle don't even look to see if there are already vehicles inside the circle thus forcing vehicles to slam on their brakes.
I guess why this bothers me so much is because one of these roundabouts is directly in front of an elementary school.
When used properly they do help keep traffic flowing, but until drivers learn to properly navigate roundabouts, I would avoid them at all cost.
