Drivers benefit from nighttime road work

To the editor:
If you've spent any time driving around Cedar Rapids this spring or summer, I'm sure you've noticed a plethora of street construction projects.
From the nightmare of the Highway 100/Edgewood Road project to all of the street closings downtown, getting around Cedar Rapids has been troublesome if not outright impossible at times. But now something different has occurred. Anyone who has traveled on Collins Road the past few weeks will have noticed that the road surface is miraculously being paved one section at a time. The amazing thing is that it is all being done at night, when traffic is the lowest. What a concept! Not only does it have the least impact on drivers and commuters, but it is also safer for the construction workers.
I'm not sure who within the city made that decision, but I would recommend that person for a promotion. Surely, I am not alone when I say that I'll be very happy when the summer of the orange cone ends.
