Dorman’s response to Bloom spot on

To Todd Dorman I say thank you. Dorman's commentary shines light into the insular mind of Stephen Bloom. I'm borrowing Dorman's analogy, the conclusion of his Dec. 15 response to Bloom: “Each of our minds holds large, locked-tight ledgers of dark disdain for the people and places we otherwise hold dear.” Is Bloom's mind without a wick to light?
Dorman writes, “I suspect it might feel very good, for a moment, to loudly proclaim the contents of that ledger, unedited and unvarnished. But I also suspect I'd sound like a pompous, callous, judgmental scold that no one would want to be around for more than five minutes.”
The rock solid truth of Dorman's words reminds us that judgmental scolds do not live comfortably; it may be their lives are possible only in a constant state of discomfort. With free speech comes responsibility; therefore, Bloom should live another 20 years in Iowa in the company of those he disparages.
In other words, climb out of the cellar, and join the world.
