Don't take away union workers' rights
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 9, 2011 2:31 pm
The unions didn't cause the financial mess; neither did the teachers, the firefighters, the janitors and the factory workers. It was the financial wizards who rolled the dice playing with other people's money and lost.
So why do governors like Scott Walker and Terry Branstad insist we are the ones who have to pay for it?
Walker's own words revealed how billionaire puppet masters like the Koch brothers are pulling the strings to attack the middle class and unions to ensure their future while sacrificing ours. Other governors are also keeping a close eye on what happens to see how much damage they can get away with at home.
It's not just forcing concessions in their wages and insurance, but to take away their right to defend themselves. I don't have to mention how many times in history that has been the start of a journey down a very dark path and greed has no limits. If they take away a union member's rights, what's to stop them from taking yours?
