Don’t reserve action until after assault
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The March 30 Gazette editorial (“Stand against a law we don't need”) and a letter writer ignore our right to access public areas without fear of assault. I should not have to wait until I'm assaulted to defend myself or run away and I can't run that fast anymore.
You conveniently ignore that the potential attacker could back off or, heaven forbid, not threaten in the first place. Your basic assumption is the assaulter has the “right” to assault you without fear of dangerous consequences to himself.
