Don’t let Trump overwhelm you

I have lived in Iowa for more than 32 years, and I can say with certainty that everyone I have known and worked with, my neighbors, business owners, organizations and community leaders, elected officials, all are caring people, treat others with respect and are eager to work with each other to solve a problem for the good of the community. Sure, there might be disagreement on some matters, but people are respectful, helpful, and caring.
In contrast, I am astonished that our president on an hourly basis is nasty, hateful, vindictive, constantly demeaning people, constantly disparaging a whole segment of our nation, and constantly lying. So un-Christian. The complete opposite of how we behave in our neighborhoods to create functioning communities. Imagine if your town’s mayor created chaos on a daily basis, made hateful remarks toward others, made random rash judgments, fired people who had served and built your community, was totally arrogant and unwilling to listen and to learn, and would say he is making your town great again.
Don’t let his falsehoods overwhelm you. I focus on what is real: my neighbors, my friends, people of my community, all the local relations, local land, and the beauty of the rest of creation. The trust and respect that exist in our local communities are robust and provide the guiding light we need to prevail in the face of forces that aim to diminish our communities.
