Don’t let Moms for Liberty in future Freedom Festival parades

I was appalled as spectator to the June 24 Freedom Festival parade to see that the Linn County Moms For Liberty had an entry. This group was recently named a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and has stated support for banning books, and are against COVID-19 protocols and inclusive curriculums. In a city that states “Welcome Is Our Language,” including this group in the parade was offensive to many marginalized communities in Cedar Rapids, especially the local LGBTQ community. It is my hope that the Freedom Festival organization will revisit its policies on what entries should be included in future parades. Hate has no place in our community.
