Don’t be so quick to judge unvaccinated Iowans

I want to start by saying how very grateful our daughter and family is for the awesome staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Because of their knowledge and exceptional care, our daughter was home for Christmas (“Young COVID-19 patient discharged from Cedar Rapids hospital before Christmas,” Dec. 24).
It’s really sad that there are people out there that are quick to judge without knowing the full story. Not once was she asked “Why were you not vaccinated?” She chose not to clarify her response because she didn’t want to pass judgment on health care professionals.
If you would take the time to look at the timeline of all of this, she was pregnant when the vaccine was just getting introduced. They were unsure of the effects on pregnant women. Her doctor (who I won’t name) had advised her not to get the shot. She had to fight for her life because she took her doctor’s advice. At that time, the doctor had to make the best decision for their patients based on the information they had about the vaccination at that time.
There are always going to be people out there judging, until you’re put in someone else’s position, please think twice about judging. Be kind, you don’t always know their full story.
