Donating stimulus money to worthy causes

This is a response to a guest column sent in by Rich and Marion Patterson ('Spending our stimulus,” Feb. 3).
We too were sent $1,200 in government stimulus. We also are fortunate in that we are financially stable, and would like to take that money and donate it to local nonprofits.
Our country is divided. We need to come together and help our fellow citizens who need the stimulus money. If those who can afford it pass on their government money it would make a big difference. Below are the nonprofits we are supporting.
CommUnity, Iowa City, which provides crisis services including a food bank, suicide prevention, rent, water and energy assistance.
Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP), which provides shelter, food and clothing for families fleeing intimate partner violence.
The Emma Goldman Clinic, providing reproductive health care.
