Do what you can to combat CAFOs

I was disheartened when I read your article about the confined animal feeding operation, or CAFO, outside Monona in Allamakee County ('New violations for Walz Energy feedlot and biogas site,” Dec. 14). These facilities confine farm animals in extremely small spaces, which are inhumane conditions. CAFOs also pollute the air and waters.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has an excellent video displaying such conditions. This year the Winneshiek County Fair board in Decorah allowed PETA to have a booth to show these conditions. I recommend other fair boards do the same. I also recommend consumers boycott CAFO products and buy free-range beef and cage-free chicken products.
