Do not be threatened by science

To the editor:
Regarding Pastor Joshua Graber's April 13 letter 'Science not always for the better”:
He is likely doing a disservice to the members of his flock who need a clearer understanding of the differences between religious faith and scientific fact. The planet we live on is over 3.5 billion years old, not 6,000 years old. That evolution (i.e. biological change including the formation of new species) has occurred over the course of time is a fact, and the evidence for human-influenced climate change during the last 30 years is real.
Might I suggest to Pastor Graber that he do himself and his congregation a favor. Instead of relying on propaganda supplied by Big Oil-supported think tanks and comic books on creationism published by the Creation Institute and the like, he could try reading legitimate science books on evolutionary biology and the scientific reports published by the world's climatologists.
