Divert waste in different ways to preserve landfill

The Linn County Solid Waste Agency says that the landfill may be full by 2036. They had expected to use it until 2044. As you probably know, there are many ways we can divert waste from the landfill.
We can donate things that aren’t broken to charities or put things out on the curb with a “free” sign. We can put books into Little Free Libraries that can be found at many churches, schools, and parks. We can put unopened, unexpired food into Little Free Pantries. There is a Little Free Pantry at the Hiawatha Public Library, among other places. We can compost food waste. Cedar Rapids has a great system in which residents can compost food waste in their yardies. Also, we can make sure to recycle instead of putting recyclable items in the trash, such as taking water bottles home to recycle instead of putting them in the trash while we’re out. Every little bit helps. Let’s make sure it’s mostly actual trash in the landfill and maybe it’ll be open until 2100.
