District turns its back during school transition
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As Polk Elementary School parents, we went before the school board many times to tell it of our pride in our school and its success. We asked that they come and see what has been done and they looked away. We asked that they hear us out and understand but they refused to listen. We struggle to understand why as they closed Polk.
Now, grieving Polk families need to choose which school could possibly come close to the
support and level of success we were used to. Wait until the information arrived, they said. Some are still waiting.
So, we called to visit other schools and many didn't have answers to our questions or gave conflicting answers. Message upon message was left at the school district with no reply back. Then the school district decided to switch communication lines to the new administration building so we could not reach them even if we tried. Then everyone went on spring break. We were left with just a few days to decide.
We are forced to go along with a decision no one wants or understands. The school district promised that it will take care of our kids through this transition.
Why can't the district follow through on its promises? Why are our children's needs put behind those of the district and that confounded new building? Why are they turning their backs on us yet again?
